Hivelocity, a dedicated server, private cloud and infrastructure services provider to customers in over 130 countries, has launched a new server line this week that includes Intel’s brand new processor family, codenamed Broadwell. This newest generation of processors is Intel’s first Xeon based system-on-chip (SoC) and should quickly become a staple in the dedicated server market.

The Intel Broadwell Xeon D-1540 includes 8 physical cores, 16 threads and the ability to take 128GB of DDR4 RAM. Preliminary benchmarks have the new Intel Xeon D-1540 outperforming well known industry work horses like the Intel Xeon E3-1276 v3 and E5-1620 v3 processors. As much as these processors are powerful for the consumer they are to be beloved equally by data center operators due to their power efficiency.

Hivelocity’s Sales Manager, Drew Adams, had this to say about the new server line, “because the Xeon D is a SoC with the CPU permanently affixed to the motherboard, it is absolutely perfect for our 7-minute server line. Having the processor soldered to the board is one less step we have with deployment. We have pallets of these systems shipping to us pre-built and ready to ping. The money we save on assembly and power consumption gets passed right over to customers.”

Hivelocity is packaging the Intel Xeon D-1540 in 2 server offerings currently. The first starts at $169 and is fully customizable with up to 128GB RAM and as many hard drive combinations one can come up with. The second is for the 7-minute server line, which are prebuilt systems that deploy in about 7 minutes, includes 32GB RAM, a 480GB SSD coupled with a 1TB SATA meant for backups and 500Mbps of bandwidth on a 1Gbps port for $189.
