We have been notified by cPanel that one of the servers they use for technical support has been compromised. The staff at cPanel are still investigating the issue and are not fully aware of what, if any information was actually compromised. However, they have advised us to make sure we reset any of the servers whose login information we have provided them over the last 6 months during times we have worked with their team on issues. Because we sometimes work with cPanel techs to correct customer issues we are advising all customers with cPanel to be safe and reset their passwords.

Please change the root level password if you are not already using ssh keys. If you are using an unprivileged account with “sudo” or “su” for root logins, we recommend you change the account password. Even if you are using SSH keys we still recommend rotating keys on a regular basis.
