In recent months, VMware by Broadcom has been releasing (big) changes to its product offering, licensing terms, and partner programs.

To recap, what did VMware by Broadcom announce?

VMware by Broadcom made drastic changes to their product suite after customer and partner feedback stated their offering was too complex. Changes to their product offering now allow customers of all sizes to gain more value for their investments in VMware solutions.

The major changes were:

  • Drastic simplification of their product portfolio.
  • Perpetual to Subscription licenses, including support and updates.
  • Added a “Bring Your Own License” Option

What are their new offerings?

The two new offerings are VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and VMware vSphere Foundation (VVF)

  • VMware Cloud Foundation is their flagship enterprise-class hybrid cloud solution for customers to run their business-critical and modern applications – in a secure, resilientand cost-efficient manner. 1 VCF does include enriched support during activation and lifecycle management.

  • VMware vSphere Foundation delivers a more simplified enterprise-grade workload platform for our mid-sized to smaller customers. This solution integrates vSphere with our intelligent operations management to provide the best performance, availability, and efficiency with greater visibility and insights. 2

Then, there are the “add-ons” – Customers have been accustomed to receiving a comprehensive set of features from their legacy licenses. Add-ons to VCF or VVF could imply more money for those customers who have specific application or security requirements.

However, VMware has reduced the previous subscription list price by half and added higher support service levels, including enhanced support for activating the solution and lifecycle management for the VCF customers.
